February 10
The sun is out, and the snow looks good, but I am watching the action from my hotel room. Vicki and I are taking a needed rest day. Most of our last group is leaving around 11:00 AM, so we are on our own until we leave next Friday.
Skiing is counterintuitive. If you are moving downhill, you might be tempted to lean back. Not good, as you will fall. Lean forward and dig your downhill ski into the hill. Here are some of Mike Fetters’ fundamentals.
Three basics: hands up & forward; shins against boot tongue; look out, not down.
Janet Livingston from Hudson, Mass. Has been skiing with us for several years now. She started as a beginning intermediate and now is an advanced skier. Her remarkable improvement is a testament to her athleticism, concentration, and fitness. She is great fun to ski with.
Rob Schannon was a good sport when he was here. We teased him about his retro outfit and strongly advised him to change his look if he returned next year. His Descente Parka had to go; these were the options we gave him.

Last night, we went to the Limelight Hotel in Base Village, a few hundred yards from our hotel. The Aspen Ski Corporation built a small gondola to ferry skiers and shoppers back and forth from the mall to Base Village, so it is an easy trip down the hill.
For dinner, we shared a happy-hour burger and fries. At $ 14.00, it is the best buy in Snowmass. Today, I will take another day off skiing to calm down some aches and pains and fend off a stubborn cough. Vicki will make some runs this morning.
