February 11
Vicki guided today. I took another rest day, and we met two men at breakfast, Todd and Al, who were bigger than life but friendly and open to suggestions. Did they race Porsches and ski around the world? Yes, and Todd drove his BMW motorcycle to the Arctic Circle.
Though the men had been to Snowmass many times, they didn’t know the mountain well. Al was on a mission like a sailor searching for an elusive mermaid. He remembered a trail that he described with wide-open eyes. He asked me if I knew of such a trail. With confidence that proved to be unfounded, I said,” Upper Green Cabin.”
And so it was that the treasure seekers left to find Valhalla at 8:45. They had a great ski morning, but they did not find the secret trail. Both men skied well with a lot of speed. Vicki had a good time, and I plan to join the group tomorrow if I am up to it. Showing people the mountain is fun and purposeful.
Will we see the Super Bowl? Our smart TV is on a roll, and the staff, let alone Vicki and me, can't figure it out. Staff are coming and going, and we’ll see what happens. Stay tuned. Our manager, Ken, finally decided to switch out TVs and cable boxes and brought in a new remote. Bingo, Taylor Swift was singing in her box. We appreciate the staff’s efforts.
Today, I will make some ski runs and see how it goes. I think we will start out with Al and Todd.
